Competition with EA's Skate

After the release of Skate in 2007, most skateboarding video game fans argued that the Skate series was the better choice over the the Tony Hawk series mainly because Skate's realism in it's gameplay. Other fans also said, that Skate may have realistic gameplay, but the Tony Hawk sense blowing up construction sites, chasing dug dealers, and doing billion point combos in the air after dopping out from a helicopter is found to be funner than Skate's sense of launching off a kicker, doing a nosegrab, land in a grind, and then fliptricking right out of the grind gets boring.

In 2007, Skate "defeated" Tony Hawk's Proving Ground by Skate's dominating sales. In 2008, Skate It on the Nintendo DS "defeated" Tony Hawk's Motion, a spin-off to the Tony Hawk series that was also released on the Nintendo DS, for obvious reasons. On the Wii, Skate It mainly had competition with Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip. The Tony Hawk series took 2008 off from releasing main series games to reinvent itself. As of 2009, it is yet to be seen which series will "dominate" the genre of skateborading video games. Skate 2 was released in early 2009, but, Tony Hawk: Ride is still yet to be released.
