Sky Lines is a level in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X, located in Detroit, Michigan, on a rainy night. This level represents the roofs of 4 skyscrapers. It's a novelty level, exclusive to XBOX port of THPS2.

Level layout[]

Building 1 (ramp roof)[]

This rooftop basically forms a big ramp area. There are billboards on each side of the building. First one advertises Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer, which was released around the same time as Pro Skater 3. Another one references something called "Punk Cowboy Blues". It is notable that it's basically impossible to get a decent view to these billboards in the game and it's only visible on a level preview.

Building 2 (hotel)[]

This building is notable due to various structures including ventilation shafts, a maintenance building

Building 3[]

There is a set of roof windows on this building, including stained glass on the top. There is a big red Hotel sign on this roof.

Building 4 (roof pool)[]

The most notable feature of this building is the pool and solid sunbenches around it.

Trivia[]

  • This level is often called Rooftops, which is also how the Paris level was nicknamed in game files of THPS3.
  • This level was partially recycled into the Rooftops level of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, along with THPS2's GBA only level Rooftops, and Construction Site.
  • This level's design was inspired by Spider-Man. He was the main unlockable character in THPS2 as Neversoft were also developing a Spider-Man game at the same time. Various references to "Spider-Man" franchise can be found strewn throughout the level from "Graffiti" to "Gaps".
  • Particle effects that represent rain appear in the level.
  • During some grinds around the edges of the level, the camera will pan down to the out-of-bounds street area. It is unknown if this is a common occurrence or a glitch.
  • The advertisement for Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer can be found on the other side of the giant billboard. It is another game from the 'Activision 02' brand of games. Kelly Slater would later be featured as an unlockable character in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.

Gap references[]

  • Somewhere in the level, there is a gap named "Bournouli Principle". Though misspelled in-game, this is a reference to Bernoulli's Principle, which states that "an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy". How this principle applies to the level is unclear.
  • Two more gaps in the level, "Float Like A Butterfly", and "Leap Tall Buildings in a Single Bound", also contain references. The former is a reference to the quote "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee", attributed to late boxing champion Muhammed Ali. The latter is a reference to a common description of one of the powers of DC superhero, Superman.
  • Yet another gap, "Singin in Da Rain" is a slight spelling variation of the musical comedy "Singin' in the Rain".
